Nay Pyi Taw, 8 Oct — The group from Thandaung North Special Region on 25 September issued the declaration on its stance on the decision to put Myanmar on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.

The following is the full text of the declaration:

The declaration of the group from Thandaung North Special Region on condemnation of US interference in Myanmar’s internal affairs using the UN.

25 September 2006

1. Due to the submission of the US permanent representative to the UN, a decision was made on 15 September to put Myanmar on the agenda of the UN Security Council accusing the country of posing a threat to regional stability.

2. The US is making attempts to interfere in Myanmar’s internal affairs. The US using the UN as a tool ignored the all-round development, stability and peace, prevalence of law and order and national solidarity for interfering in Myanmar’s affairs. It has been plotting to impede Our Three Main National Causes and the National Convention which is being attended by representatives from mass and class organizations in accord with seven-point Road Map for putting Myanmar on the agenda of the UNSC.

3. The peace group from Thandaung North Special Region returned to the legal fold and settled down in accord with the policies laid down by the State. The group has participated in the regional development and security tasks. As a result, we are practically enjoying peace and stability and development now. We believe that there is no reason for Myanmar to pose a threat to the region as there is peace and tranquillity
nationwide.

4. Therefore, the group declares that it condemns and protests against the US act of putting Myanmar on the agenda of the UNSC with the plot to interfere in Myanmar’s internal affairs.
